Asus laptops to offer ‘instant-on’ Linux

AsusWritten by Guy Dixon ; An ‘instant-on’ version of Linux from US-based firm DeviceVM will soon appear on Asus laptops alongside Windows Vista.
The Splashtop distro will be bundled on the Asus M70T, M50V, M51Vr and high-end F8Va/Vr notebooks this summer and on the manufacturer’s entire notebook range “in the future”. Read the rest of this entry »

Acer unveils Aspire One ‘netbook’

AcerWritten by Lain Thomson ; Acer has announced an ultra-mobile PC which it calls a ‘netbook’ rather than a laptop in an attempt to revive flagging sales in the computer market.
The Aspire One is a low cost computer designed to compete with the Asus Eee PC and the OLPC.
The sub-1Kg device runs Linux, and offers Wi-Fi and an 8GB solid state drive. It will be in the shops by 10 July. Read the rest of this entry »
