Firefox 3 to launch on 17 June

Following two release candidates on the PC and three on the Mac, the latest iteration of the open source browser has been declared ready for general consumption.

Mozilla has made available the second release candidate of its upcoming Firefox 3 web browser..
The company hopes that the final version will be available for download in a few weeks, but is waiting for feedback on the new release candidate before confirming a final date.

Intel’s MID, netbook, and nettop strategy

Intel is talking up the mobile market at Computex this year, unveiling detailed information on upcoming Atom-based products. We’ve covered what Intel refers to as Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) before, but the CPU giant is now detailing plans to introduce products into two new system tiers it refers to as “netbooks” and “nettops.” These new systems will be powered by the Atom N230 and Atom N270 processors. Despite the different nomenclature, these chips are architecturally identical to the Z-series of Atom we’ve previously discussed. The difference between the two series is in the chip packaging—the Z-series package is 13mm x 14mm, while the N-series is 22mm x 22mm.

Via Nano takes on Intel Atom

Chip maker Via has launched the latest range of processors based on its Isaiah architecture.
The Via Nano range promises up to four times the performance of the existing Via C7 processor family while remaining within the same power range.
Via Nano is also pin compatible with C7 processors allowing them to be used in existing motherboards and integrated systems.
